Hearthstone Expansion 2015? Announcement on July 22

Update: Today, Blizzard Entertainment published a new “The Innkeeper’s Tale” titled A Rattlin’ Rally. What most catches the eye is the mention of shining-armor murlocs, and the image showing a unicorn. Our staff member Lugia went all hype in our chat channel and mentioned this mount is only sold at the Argent Tournament Grounds. The Quel’Dorei Steed is sold by Hiren Loresong (Alliance) and an armored version by the Argent Crusade vendor Dame Evniki Kapsalis: The Argent Charger — which confirms whatever Blizzard plans to announce on July 22 has ties to the Argent Tournament.

Hearthstone expansion 2015 …? A few days ago, you probably saw this at PC Gamer. Today, I got a special delivery from Blizzard Entertainment in the shape of a cilindrical tube with a wrapping paper sporting the Hearthstone logo.

After opening the cap, a royal announcement fanfare performed with trumpets was heard. This is a very creative marketing piece. The royal announcement melody evokes the memory of The Argent Crusade welcoming you to the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown (World of Warcraft players know well what this is about).

In fact, the melody in the scroll delivered by Blizzard is the same fanfare at the beginning of the Argent Tournament Jousting soundtrack. It is a no-brainer.

Release Dates

  • Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft — released on March 11, 2014
  • Curse of Naxxramas (adventure) — released on July 22, 2014
  • Goblins vs. Gnomes (expansion) — released on December 8, 2014
  • Blackrock Mountain (adventure) — released on April 2
  • ?????????????????? (expansion?) — release August, 2015?

If you notice the dates listed above for the release date of either an adventure or an expansion, there is a constant content release every 4 months. It is very possible that what we see in July 22 is the announcement of a new expansion pack for Hearthstone. GamesCom happens to be on August 5-9. It’s on track with the 4th month time-frame for new Hearthstone content to be released around those days.

This is what the Hearthstone scroll delivered by Blizzard Entertainment says:

Well met, Hero!

Champions are gathering from around the world to witness the next exciting thing Hearthstone has in store.

News travels far and wide in search of brave new faces ready to answer the call to arms — Are you one of them?

Muster for battle and mark July 22 on your calendar. The next bit of news won’t come by carrier pigeon — thankfully, we have much better ways of communication now.

Victory awaits!

Could it be a Hearthstone expansion themed around the Argent Crusade versus Arthas? We already have Tiron Fordring and paladin-themed neutral cards, we have the Black Knight legendary card, we have Undead Scourge neutral cards too. Before Goblins vs Gnomes, we already had neutral mech cards, but they weren’t tagged as mech. The expansion marked those cards as mech to go along with all the new cards introduced by Goblins vs Gnomes. Could this happen with a plethora of past neutral cards not currently tagged as undead, too?

On the other hand, this could be the announcement of the Fireside Gathering Championship or the BlizzCon World Championship Regional Qualifiers, or something akin to Heroes of the Dorm?

Only time will tell. Mark July 22 on your calendar. We certainly did, and plan to cover news on whatever this exciting news (with such a sweet marketing) Blizzard wishes to share with the world. Watch the video below (added closed captions/subtitles or CC)
